London Rooms
03:34
|
|||
What if every London room could talk
what a choir of voices would sound
soprano sailing and jagged noises
industrial nailing and female wailing
birthing cries and dying moans
dining in and sexing out
waking up with eyes wide shut
wedding songs and funeral dirges
crimes of passion and fading kisses
lives not lead and wealth imagined
travels begun and luggage lost
tragic betrayals and dangerous males
The flood of years
the flood of tears
the flood of years
the flood of tears
The history here is the mystery
what if London rooms could talk
the history here is the mystery
what if London rooms could talk
Flowing dresses and worn out threads
homes and gardens and unmade beds
the times on Sunday the Mirror with hacks
pate de fois gras tripe and tat
Doctor Johnson and Springheel Jack
the Ripper is back
William Shakespeare Orwell's tome
Sherlock cracks the mystery's bones

Strange Kingdom
03:47
|
|||
Flying in with a song and a prayer
we meet the elements of joy and despair
it fills our lungs
it fills the air
holding out for inspiration
ignoring all the signs of fear and decay
it fills our lungs it fills the air
desire will find us
and we will dive to deep
We live in a strange kingdom
full of cloudy skies and pale anthems
On the road with Steppenwolf
taking in the scene
as we play the golden halls
it fills our lungs it fills the air
following on our heroes path
dreaming of the day we create a joyful noise
it fills our hopes it fills the air
the fire will find us
and we will burn to bright
We listen to strange weather
full of spinning yarns and pale phantoms

Two Houses
08:08
|
|||
The brush marks of heaven
hang over the moon
in the gardens of Kent
as we finish our tune
mountains push skyward
as we train through the night
the solitary wolf
stands just out of sight
Can I live in two houses
can i hear two refrains
can I eat at this table
in the sun and the rain
I wander at night
along the path not taken
peer into these houses
maybe one a safe haven
a face stares from the window
young and fair will she age?
but the door will not open
as I stand in my cage
Keep the keys safe
keep the secret or not
two houses still beckon
mine to unlock
The brush marks of heaven
hang over the moon

Breaking Vancouver Sky
04:18
|
|||
Living in this city
on the edge of a dream
taking in the sights
the sounds and the scene
Mountains push skywards
knifing through the clouds
I'm longing to belong
bent but unbowed
With Annie and Robbie
the circle is joined
the music goes deep
thrilling this crowd
But the harmony breaks
the circle is broken
the eagle flies north
the heart's last token

Dig These Bones
03:01
|
|||
I got the honey
I got the time
I got my enemies
you name the crime
(if there is one)
I got the dough
I got the dress
I got the key
by any measure
a bona fide success
(Shall I open myself)
to the wider world
listen to the voices
in my head
that dance and swirl
or run away
and let go of these scenes
and dig these bones
these fading dreams
I got it straight
no time for hate
I declared my innocence
and raised the stakes
I shared your table
i heard you confess
the story was stunning
by any measure
a bona fide success
Dig these bones
these fading dreams
Dig these bones
pick 'em clean
we all pay the piper
to oil and soil
this world machine

Life Under Water
04:03
|
|||
Riding home at night
across the misty marshes
past the church of darkness
and the house of light
as I pedal through the village
so many souls are sleeping
but I'm just one of many
in our house tonight
I'm living life under water
breathing in not out
how I long to surface
so I can let out that shout
take a wider lungful
and return to the deep
hold it all in
until I can sleep
Breathe again
learning to swim
reaching the shore
and the landscape within
Late night ride
on the train alone
each stop a mystery
on the journey home
no one gets on
no one gets off
moving slowly through the night
towards a ringing phone
I loose the connection
the waters too deep
she is high on the diving board
the angle too steep
I'm living life under water
I'm learning to swim
I'm out of the pool
my heads start to spin
Breathe again
learning to swim
reaching the shore
and the landscape within
breathe again
breathe again
breathe again

Small Pools
04:05
|

Diving into small pools
even though you know
there's no water down there
diving into small pools
singin' on the way down
even though you know
no one is listening
diving into small pools
let's hear it for the one's
who fade away
let's hear it for the ones
who took the wrong path
Diving into small pools
even though you know
there's not enough water there
(sink or swim mate, sink or swim)
diving into small pools
singin' on the way down
even though you know
no one is listening
diving into small pools
Let's hear it for the ones
who stayed away
let's hear it for the ones
who just got lost
let's hear for the ones
who had the wrong boss
Diving into small pools
even though you
there's not enough water there
(sink or swim mate, sink or swim)
